OUR VERDICT

Luma AI is a paid platform for making AI video and images, with its own Ray video models plus third party models such as Kling, Veo and Seedance in one credit system. It is worth a look for creators and agencies who want many models with commercial use in one place, but there is no free plan and it costs more to start than Adobe Firefly or Runway.

What Luma AI is

Luma AI makes generative video and image models and sells access to them through a web platform. Its newest video model is Ray3.2, which Luma says lets you direct video the way you would direct a shoot, with frame level control and continuity across cuts Luma AI ↗. Its image model, Uni 1, carries style and character references across assets Luma AI ↗.

The platform is not limited to Luma's own models. The pricing page lists credit costs for third party models including Seedance 2.0 and 2.5, Kling 3.0 and Kling Omni, Veo 3.1, Minimax H3, Flux 3, GPT Image 2 and Nano Banana Luma pricing ↗. It also includes ElevenLabs voice, sound effect and music tools Luma pricing ↗.

On Pro and Ultra plans you get more use of Luma Agents, which Luma says research, generate and refine across video, image, audio and text while keeping a brand consistent Luma pricing ↗ Luma AI ↗. Luma also offers APIs for Ray3.2 and Uni 1.1, and its client list includes agencies such as Dentsu, Publicis Groupe and Serviceplan Luma AI ↗.

What it does well

Model choice is the main strength. One subscription covers Luma's Ray models and several of the top ranked video models from other companies Luma pricing ↗. On the Arena text to video leaderboard, Seedance 2.0, Seedance 2.5, Minimax H3 and Flux 3 Video all sit in the top 10, and Luma lists every one of them Arena leaderboard ↗ Luma pricing ↗.

Commercial use is included from the first paid plan. Plus lists commercial use and edit access for guest collaborators Luma pricing ↗.

The tools cover a full workflow. Beyond generation, you can reframe and upscale video to 1080p or 4K, remove backgrounds, add lip sync and create voiceovers or music, all billed from the same credits Luma pricing ↗.

Ray3.2 credit costs are clear. A 5 second clip costs 20 credits in draft quality, 100 at 720p and 400 at 1080p Luma pricing ↗. With 10,000 credits, Plus covers about 100 five second clips at 720p, or 25 at 1080p, if you use only Ray3.2.

Where it falls short

There is no free plan listed on the pricing page Luma pricing ↗. You have to pay at least $25 a month to try it properly.

Luma's own models are not the leaders. On the Arena leaderboard, Ray 3 ranks 31st and Ray 2 ranks 46th Arena leaderboard ↗. Ray3.2 was not listed when we checked Arena leaderboard ↗. You can still use stronger third party models, but they cost more credits. Veo 3.1 with audio costs 280 credits per second, so 10,000 credits buy only about 35 seconds of it Luma pricing ↗.

The pricing page leaves out details. It does not say whether credits roll over, whether you can buy top ups, or what the refund and cancellation terms are Luma pricing ↗. Team and Enterprise plans have no public price Luma pricing ↗.

Hands on testing is in progress, and we will update this review.
