Copyleaks checks text for AI writing and plagiarism in one report, in more than 30 languages for AI and more than 100 for plagiarism. It is a good fit for schools, agencies and teams that review multilingual work and need both checks at scale. If you only need the most independently tested AI detector, look at Pangram or GPTZero first, since Copyleaks was not in the main recent accuracy study.
What Copyleaks is
Copyleaks is an AI content detection and plagiarism checking platform. For text, one scan produces a single report that covers both AI generated writing and possible plagiarism Copyleaks pricing ↗. It also detects AI generated images Copyleaks pricing ↗.
It sells to three groups: individuals and small teams on Personal and Pro plans, enterprises that want API access and private hosting, and schools that want LMS integrations Copyleaks pricing ↗.
Hands on testing is in progress, and we will update this review with our results.
What it does well
Two checks in one report saves time. If you review student essays or freelance articles, you usually want to know about copying as well as AI. Copyleaks gives you both from one text scan Copyleaks pricing ↗.
Language coverage is wide. AI detection works in more than 30 languages and plagiarism detection in more than 100 Copyleaks pricing ↗. Pro adds cross language translation detection, which looks for text that was copied and then translated Copyleaks pricing ↗.
It works where you write. Every individual plan includes a browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox with saved scans, a Google Docs add on and multi file upload Copyleaks pricing ↗.
Teams get real seats. Pro includes 25 user seats, an analytics dashboard, advanced detection filters and website scanning by sitemap Copyleaks pricing ↗. That is a lot of seats for the price compared with per user tools.
Schools get LMS support. Education plans include integrations with Canvas, Moodle, D2L Brightspace, Schoology, Sakai, Edsby and Blackboard, plus grade and feedback sync and a grammar check Copyleaks pricing ↗. Enterprise plans list ISO, SOC 2 and 3, GDPR and other compliance badges, with on premises or private cloud hosting Copyleaks pricing ↗.
Where it falls short
Independent accuracy data is thin. The most rigorous recent comparison we found, a 2025 University of Chicago study, tested Pangram, GPTZero and Originality.ai, but not Copyleaks Chicago Booth study ↗. Without that, you are relying more on the vendor's own claims.
All AI detectors make mistakes. In the Chicago study, every commercial tool did worse on passages under 50 words, and results varied by AI model and threshold Chicago Booth study ↗. A 2023 Stanford study found detectors flagged essays by non native English writers as AI at an average rate of 61 percent Stanford bias study ↗. Treat any flag as a reason to talk, not as proof.
Small false positive rates still add up. Vanderbilt disabled Turnitin's AI detector after estimating that a 1 percent false positive rate could have wrongly flagged about 750 of its 75,000 papers in a year Vanderbilt ↗.
Plan terms are vague in places. The pricing page shows a Start for Free button but does not state free plan terms, and it does not list a refund or credit rollover policy Copyleaks pricing ↗. Several FAQ answers on the pricing page were blank when we checked Copyleaks pricing ↗.
The monthly Personal plan is small. It covers 100 credits, up to 25,000 words, which is only a few dozen essays a month Copyleaks pricing ↗. Image scans check for AI only, not image plagiarism Copyleaks pricing ↗.
