Start with the free Shopify Magic and Sidekick already in your admin, then add Klaviyo for email and SMS, which is free for up to 250 contacts and starts at $20 a month after that.

Klaviyo
Best for email and SMS: the AI tool most likely to bring in repeat sales.
For most Shopify stores, email and text messages to past customers are the cheapest sales you will ever make, and Klaviyo is the tool built most closely around Shopify data. Its Shopify App Store listing has a 4.7 out of 5 rating from 3,362 reviews, which is a large and mostly happy base of store owners Klaviyo app listing ↗. The listing names its AI features plainly: AI that writes email and SMS campaigns, AI powered segments and flow triggers, and AI agents that run automated workflows Klaviyo app listing ↗.
Klaviyo's own site adds two newer pieces. Composer audits and builds flows and campaigns from a typed prompt, and Customer Agent answers shoppers for support and selling using your store data Klaviyo pricing ↗. For a small team this matters because the hard part of email is not writing one message. It is setting up the abandoned cart, welcome and win back flows that run every day without you. Hands on testing is in progress; we will update this guide with results.
Pricing is easy to start. Email is free for up to 250 contacts, and SMS is free for up to 150 SMS or MMS credits Klaviyo app listing ↗. Paid email starts at $20 a month for 251 to 500 contacts, and SMS starts at $15 a month for up to 1,250 credits including carrier fees Klaviyo app listing ↗. Costs rise as your list grows, so keep the list clean.
Why we like it
- Deep Shopify data for segments and flows
- AI writes campaigns and builds flows from a prompt
- Free plan to start
- 4.7 rating from 3,362 Shopify reviews
Flaws but not dealbreakers
- Price climbs quickly as your contact list grows
- Free plan is small at 250 contacts
- More to learn than a basic newsletter tool
Shopify Sidekick and Shopify Magic
Already in your admin: free AI for product copy, image edits and store questions.
Before you pay for anything, use what Shopify already gives you. Shopify Magic is Shopify's name for its set of AI features, and Shopify calls it free regardless of your subscription plan Shopify Magic help ↗. It writes suggestions for product descriptions, blog posts, pages, Shopify Messaging emails and Shopify Inbox replies, and it can remove a product image's background or make a hero banner Shopify Magic help ↗. Shopify says it does not use one merchant's store data to power Magic for other merchants Shopify Magic help ↗.
Sidekick is the chat assistant that sits on top. You can ask it questions in plain English from any admin page, on desktop or mobile, by text or voice Sidekick help ↗. It can analyze your data, manage orders, edit products and write product descriptions, and it shows proposed changes for your review before applying them Sidekick help ↗. Shopify's product page lists ready made commands such as /product-description, /discount-code, /email-campaign, /low-stock-alert and /weekly-summary Shopify Sidekick page ↗. Shopify's pricing page lists Sidekick as included in all plans, and its Sidekick page says it does not cost extra Shopify pricing ↗ Shopify Sidekick page ↗.
The catch is that features and usage limits vary by plan, and Shopify does not publish the numbers Shopify Sidekick page ↗. Sidekick also only knows your store. For deep email automation or a busy support inbox, the specialist picks below go further.
Why we like it
- No extra cost on any Shopify plan
- Works inside the admin you already use
- Edits products and images, with review before changes
- Follows your store's language settings
Flaws but not dealbreakers
- Usage limits vary by plan and are not published
- Lighter than specialist email or support tools
- Only useful if you sell on Shopify
Photoroom
Clean, consistent product photos from your phone, for very little money.
Product photos do more selling than any description. Photoroom is built for that one job: its paid plans include the Background Remover, AI Backgrounds and AI Expand and Resize Photoroom pricing ↗. That means you can shoot on a kitchen table, drop the background, place the product in a styled scene and resize the result for your store, ads and social posts.
The free plan gives you 100 exports a month, renewing monthly on the day your account was created Photoroom free limit ↗. That is enough for a small catalog. Pro costs $7.50 a month billed yearly and includes 8,000 AI credits and 1,000 exports a month Photoroom pricing ↗. Max costs $20.99 a month billed yearly with 25,000 AI credits and 3,000 exports, and it is the plan that adds the Shopify integration Photoroom pricing ↗.
Shopify Magic can also remove backgrounds for free Shopify Magic help ↗, so try that first if you only need white backgrounds. Photoroom earns its place when you want styled scenes and a consistent look across many products.
Why we like it
- Made for product photos
- 100 free exports a month
- Cheap yearly Pro plan
- AI scenes and resizing
Flaws but not dealbreakers
- Shopify integration only on Max
- Monthly billing prices not shown on the pricing page
- Edited scenes must still show the real product accurately
Gorgias
Best for customer support once your inbox is busy: a Shopify helpdesk with an AI agent.
Where is my order? Can I return this? Once those questions eat hours a day, Gorgias is the support tool most Shopify brands look at. Gorgias says it powers customer conversations for 40% of Shopify brands Gorgias pricing ↗. Its app listing describes an AI Agent for autonomous ticket resolution, an AI Shopping Assistant that recommends products in real time, AI replies and AI summaries Gorgias app listing ↗.
Pricing on the Shopify App Store starts with Starter at $10 a month for 3 agents and 50 tickets, then Basic at $60 a month for 300 tickets with unlimited agents, Pro at $360 a month for 2,000 tickets and Advanced at $900 a month for 5,000 tickets Gorgias app listing ↗. Every plan has a 7 day free trial Gorgias app listing ↗. Gorgias says its AI Agent is on every plan and you pay only when it resolves a conversation Gorgias pricing ↗, but the per resolution rate is not shown on the page we checked.
The listing rates it 4.3 out of 5 from 705 reviews, with 10% one star ratings Gorgias app listing ↗, so read recent reviews before you commit. For a small shop with a handful of messages a day, Tidio below is cheaper.
Why we like it
- Built around Shopify orders
- AI Agent and shopping assistant
- Priced by tickets, not per seat on most plans
- 7 day free trial
Flaws but not dealbreakers
- AI Agent per resolution rate not published on the pricing page
- Costs rise fast above 300 tickets
- Mixed reviews: 10% one star
Tidio
Best for small shops that want live chat plus an affordable AI chatbot.
Tidio is a simpler, cheaper way to add a chat box and an AI agent to your store. The free plan includes 50 billable conversations a month, 10 seats, live chat, ticketing and email management, and your first 50 conversations with its Lyro AI agent are free for life Tidio pricing ↗.
Paid plans start with Starter at $24.17 a month for 100 billable conversations Tidio pricing ↗. Lyro starts at $32.50 a month for 50 AI conversations, and Tidio says customers average a 75% resolution rate with it Tidio pricing ↗. That is Tidio's own figure, not ours. There is a 7 day free trial of all features with no credit card Tidio pricing ↗.
One thing to watch: native Shopify actions, such as working with orders inside the chat, need the Growth plan at $49.17 a month or higher Tidio pricing ↗. The free and Starter plans can chat, but they cannot act on orders.
Why we like it
- Free plan with live chat and 50 lifetime AI conversations
- Low starting price
- 7 day trial, no card
Flaws but not dealbreakers
- Shopify order actions need Growth or higher
- Lyro is priced separately
- Resolution rate is Tidio's own claim

Who this is for
This guide is for people who run a Shopify store themselves or with a small team: product brands, makers, drop shippers and shops moving from marketplaces to their own site. If writing listings, editing photos, sending emails and answering the same customer questions takes more of your week than growing the business, AI can take a real share of that work today.
It is a toolkit, not a single app. Most stores need help with four jobs: product copy, product photos, email and SMS, and customer support. Our picks cover each job. Start with the free AI already inside Shopify, then pay only for the one job that costs you the most time or money.
If you sell mainly on Etsy, see our separate Etsy guide, because Etsy search and Etsy's rules are different.
Why you should trust us
We research AI tools the way a careful buyer would, only more thoroughly. For this guide we read each vendor's pricing page, help center and Shopify App Store listing, and checked prices and plan limits on October 9, 2026. Every fact has a numbered source you can open.
We have not tested these tools hands on yet. Hands on testing is in progress, and we will update this guide with results. Until then we tell you what each vendor says, what reviewers on the Shopify App Store report, and where the claims are the vendor's own. No company paid to be included, and picks are chosen on merit only.
How we picked
We started with the jobs that take a Shopify owner's time every week, then looked for the tool that does each job best for a small store. We gave extra weight to tools that read your Shopify data directly, because AI that knows your products, orders and customers gives far more useful answers than a generic chatbot.
We also looked hard at price. Small stores need a free or cheap way to start, and a clear sense of how costs grow. Tools that hide pricing, or charge per seat when the store has one owner, scored lower.
- Works inside Shopify or reads Shopify data directly
- Does one store job clearly well: copy, photos, email or support
- A free plan or low cost starting tier, with published limits
- Clear pricing that scales with the store
- Good ratings from many reviews on the Shopify App Store
- Lets you review AI output before it reaches customers
What AI can and can't do for a Shopify store today
AI is already good at the routine work. Shopify Magic drafts product descriptions and blog posts, and Sidekick can edit products and analyze your data from a chat box, with changes shown for your review first Shopify Magic help ↗ Sidekick help ↗. Photoroom turns phone shots into clean product photos Photoroom pricing ↗. Klaviyo writes email and SMS campaigns and builds flows from a prompt Klaviyo app listing ↗ Klaviyo pricing ↗. Support tools like Gorgias and Tidio answer common questions and, on the right plans, act on orders Gorgias app listing ↗ Tidio pricing ↗.
AI is still weak at judgment. It does not know your margins unless you tell it, it can write confident claims about a product that are not true, and it can make an edited photo look better than the item you ship. A support bot will sometimes give a wrong answer on refunds or shipping. Keep a person in charge of pricing, product claims and anything involving money back.
The practical rule: let AI write the first draft and do the repetitive clicks, and read everything before it reaches a customer. Most of these tools are built to work that way.
Before you sign up
Start free. Shopify Magic and Sidekick cost nothing extra Shopify Magic help ↗ Shopify pricing ↗, Klaviyo, Photoroom and Tidio all have free plans Klaviyo app listing ↗ Photoroom free limit ↗ Tidio pricing ↗, and Gorgias has a 7 day trial Gorgias app listing ↗. Use the free tiers for a few weeks and upgrade only the tool that clearly saves you time or earns money.
Email and SMS have rules. Only message people who opted in, and be especially careful with text messages, which carry stricter consent rules in the US. Klaviyo's SMS price includes carrier fees Klaviyo app listing ↗, but the consent part is your job.
Watch usage based pricing. Klaviyo charges by contacts, Gorgias by tickets and resolutions, and Tidio by conversations Klaviyo app listing ↗ Gorgias app listing ↗ Tidio pricing ↗. A good month can mean a bigger bill, so check the meter each month.
- Try the free AI in your Shopify admin first
- Write a short brand voice note and reuse it in every AI tool
- Check that AI edited photos still match the product you ship
- Only email and text customers who opted in
- Give the support bot a clear refund, shipping and returns policy
- Set a monthly check on contacts, tickets and AI usage
What to look forward to
AI is moving from writing drafts to doing tasks. Sidekick can already continue longer tasks in the background and notify you when results are ready for review, and it can save repeated prompts as skills Sidekick help ↗. Klaviyo's Composer builds whole flows from a prompt Klaviyo pricing ↗, and Gorgias and Tidio sell AI agents that close tickets on their own Gorgias pricing ↗ Tidio pricing ↗.
Selling through AI chat apps is the other change to watch. Shopify's pricing page lists selling in AI chats as included in all plans and offers an Agentic plan at $0 a month for selling in AI channels Shopify pricing ↗. We will track how much these channels matter for small stores and update this guide as hands on testing finishes.
